TUNGSTEN RING FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Are you just learning about the advantages of tungsten rings and jewellery? Here are the most important tungsten ring facts you need to know.
TUNGSTEN CARBIDE RINGS OFFER THE HIGHEST QUALITY
Tungsten alone is a durable metal, however it is not scratch resistant nor immune to damage. Tungsten carbide is the specially formulated alloy we use to make our jewellery, and tungsten carbide is one of the hardest materials known to man.
We tend here to use “tungsten rings” in place of the more formal “tungsten carbide rings,” but be aware that there are still manufacturers who use cheaper alloys (typically of cobalt) that do not provide the benefits of genuine tungsten carbide bound with nickel. Demand genuine tungsten carbide jewellery made from a nickel alloy to ensure your tungsten ring is of the highest quality.
“SCRATCH RESISTANT” DOES NOT MEAN “INDESTRUCTIBLE.”
The durability of tungsten rings is legendary and they are chosen for their capacity to last generations, however tungsten rings are more brittle compared to gold or platinum rings. This means that in certain rare circumstances a tungsten ring can shatter. Long story short, do not smash at your tungsten ring with a hammer in order to prove its capacity to resist damage! Treat it with the care you normally reserve for your fine jewellery.
TUNGSTEN RINGS ARE HYPO-ALLERGENIC.
They should be at least, if they are made properly. As noted above, inferior brands utilise a tungsten alloy containing cobalt. Cobalt not only can react with human secretions and tarnish, it can cause an allergic reaction in sensitive people. Tungsten carbide made from a nickel alloy does not tarnish and is completely hypo-allergenic. Make certain you are getting jewellery made with tungsten carbide nickel alloy, not cobalt or any other inferior metal.
